Sophia's Well of Wisdom - December 2013

December 2013
Sophia's Well of Wisdom
Rev. PatsyDear Amador Community,

Happy Holidays! As you get this newsletter we will have already celebrated our first Holiday event - our annual Festival of Light workshop on the first Sunday of Advent.  It was a wonderful day with our old and new spiritual friends.

If you missed the day, we will be continuing with the themes on our SundayWisdom Circles this month. See the the events described below for more information. We hope the Holiday Season along with its focus on Christmas will be a time of inner renewal and deep joy. We're deliberately keeping the calendar simple this month so that we can honor the true meaning and natural rhythm  of the season. Be blessed in the importance of the increasing Inner Light in the midst of the darkest time of the year.

Holiday Blessings,

MangerThe Nativity Drama: Luke 2:8-20
Every year at Christmas I set up my ever-growing Italian Fontanini Nativity collection, which is the one symbol of Christmas that I can't do without.
Because, in an inner or esoteric sense,

these joyous and celebratory symbols of the Nativity story relate specifically to the potential birth of the Christ within each person that is the heart and soul of Christmas.
When we consider the Nativity story described in Luke as well as Matthew, it takes on the characteristics of a literary piece. It becomes a wonderful drama that can be played over and over again, as fresh today as it was thousands of years ago.

A gifted author knows how to accomplish this fete. Author Jesse Jennings describes this process, "Luke, or whoever assembled theGospelattributedtohim, writes in the third-personomniscient, meaninghe wasn't there torecordwhat happened but writes as though heknew everyone'sthoughts as well asobservable events. Mostnovelistsadopt this viewpoint so theycanformcharacters withconsistent personalitiesand build a coherent story. Letus consider shifting the viewpoint, to whereevery character inthe story representsnota him or her or them, butan aspectof your self." ("Science of Mind" magazine, December 2006.)

Now lets look at the drama from this inner sense and see how it applies to our human spiritual experience. The Holy Infant wasn't born amidst even everyday circumstances, but in the lowest place, representing the humble nature of Christ. Those, like the innkeepers, who are only concerned about modern worldly matters represented by overcrowded city life, overlook the potential divinity that is present in every person.

The Christ is born as a helpless baby because when incarnated the Christ-self is small and needs to grow to maturity. The Holy Babe is born in a cave or stable where animals are kept, which acknowledges the Christ's birth within an individual while fully in their animal ego nature. The Light of Christ works from within to develop the Soul nature. The cave represents the dark womb of creation. In the multi-dimensional nature of a person, the cave is the creative center of the lower nature that will eventually be integrated with the Soul.

The infant is wrapped in bands or strips of cloth, meaning that the bodies (physical, emotional, mental) andenergy centers (chakras) are now in states of separation. The child is placed in an animal's feeding trough-where the base ego is fed. The divine child is truly and completely human in its manifestation in the earth plane and must begin the long journey of becoming whole. Mary and Joseph represent the balanced masculine and feminine aspects of our divine nature that is nurturing us through our spiritual infancy and childhood toward adulthood.

The shepherds characterize those spiritual seekers or aspirants who walk the path of hope in darkness, all the while taking care as best they can of the basic needs of themselves and others they are responsible for. An "angel" or messenger from Higher Consciousness appears and, though terrified, our dim consciousness is illuminated. Why are we so afraid of the very mystery that we seek? Even so, we forge on. Consciousness expands until a profound awareness of peace that "all is well" comes upon those who seek the Inner Light that is leading us forward, despite our fear and ignorance of spiritual reality.

The drama represents the unfolding incarnation of the divine spirit within each person, a necessary step to the continuous evolution of humanity in acquiring our Bodies of Light and eventually perfecting the Body of Christ in the world. We prepare inwardly and serve outwardly. We realize the Christ Light within: the Hope, the Peace, and the Joy of the unfolding Soul.

As shepherds we visit the newborn Babe, meaning we must first reach the birth of Christ within ourselves, before we can return to the field to serve. Christ means the "anointing one" that comes when we open to our higher nature. The maturing Christ-self gradually becomes a selfless servant who lives in relation to all other living beings as "savior" - serving, feeding, teaching, healing, protecting, and defending. These are the eternal joys of Christmas found in the darkest time of the year and, just like Mary, we ponder them in our heart.

Pine Grove Youth Authority gets a visit from Russell's Kitchen

A group of nine volunteers from Russell’s Kitchen arrived at Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp to share the afternoon with our fire fighters. They started out the visit by sharing music and inspiring messages with the guys offering words of encouragement.  Later in the day they broke up into small groups to discuss scripture and personal stories and the Baptism of several of our fire fighters. Music was played intermittently throughout the day followed by a picnic and games.

To finish out the weekend some of Pine Grove Camps top level fire fighters went to see a movie at the Jackson Cinemas.
